Power Wheels Scooter
Fisher Price has been making Power Wheels
toys since 1971 and now has produced over 25 million
vehicles making it the number one battery-powered vehicle
manufacturer for the children's market. There is one rather
large blemish on Fisher Price's overall clean safety record.
There was a problem with the power wheels scooter line. In
2005 fisher Price instigated a voluntary recall of some of
the power wheels scooter due to a problem with some of the
tires and wheels coming apart.
If the tires were over inflated (greater than thirty pounds)
the plastic wheel has been shown to rupture and allowing the
tire to burst possibly causing injury to the face and hands.
The models you want to watch out for are the ones that area
missing the warning label near the inflation valve of the
tire. If you happen to come across one without the warning
label be sure to Call Fisher-Price at (800) 255-7318 and
check that the power wheels scooter is not one of the
recalled models.
There was also an earlier recall in 2003
where there was concern over the operation of the power
switch. It seems that the motor control circuits that could
malfunction causing the scooters and mini bikes to continue
to run after the power or throttle button was released.
Other safety precautions should apply to the use of the
scooter. Be sure your child is wearing a helmet and other
protective gears like pads and maybe gloves. The power
wheels scooter is recommended for more advanced riders as
balance and hand eye are coordination much more important
than the sit down power wheels vehicles.
Regardless of what vehicle you end up choosing for your
child they will most likely love the experience and freedom
that a powered vehicle will bring.
